Edited. See last post for what is left.
Our tank has been set up for about 3 years and we have had a great time with it. The tank has never had any aptasia or mahano. We began with the 2 fish we still have and some rock; here’s what we have now:
55 gallon glass tank…$25
Homemade stand and hood (plywood)…$125
Power head…$5
Filter…$5
Maintenance supplies: 2 API test kits; bottle of strontium, half used; tetramin flake food; activated carbon…$20
“Monument rock” (so named because we thought it looked like the kind of rock that gets a plaque attached to it): 9” tall x 3.5-5” in diameter (oval foot print), “reef bone” rock that is now live with all kinds of good things, top half is covered in a gorgeous colony of pulsing xenia. This is an awesome softie, especially since its isolation on the rock keeps it from taking over the rest of your tank!...$50
“Castle rock” (the top looks kind of like the top of a castle): 9” tall x 11” wide x 8” deep; it is 2 pieces of rock that lean together to make a cave, covered in mushrooms, small sponges, small red dusters, and coralline algae…$40
“The Cave:” 10”wide x 5”tall x 7.5” deep, not that exciting to look at, but a great start for or addition to a refugium. DIY cement and shell mix molded in to a cave that is stable and loved by all kinds of reef creepy-crawlies. Covered with saw-blade algae which grow at an incredible rate, so we regularly pull handfuls out since nothing in our tank eats it; this is an excellent method of nutrient export! This is our cleaner shrimp’s favorite hangout...$5
2 blue-green chromis…$10
Cleaner shrimp…$15
Frogspawn LPS: 2 joined polyps…$25. 2 individual polyps…$10 each.
Mushroom rocks: various kinds of mushrooms and sizes of rocks…$3-$5 each
3 branch arch: 4” tall with mushrooms, green star polyps, and 1 ricordia polyp growing nicely on it. This is the coolest piece of rock we made and has the beginnings of some great colonies on it…$25
Rock branch: 16” long with mushrooms, pulsing xenia, green/brown zoos, and 4 ricordia polyps…$50
Green star polyps: 2 colonies, 3” x 2”…$25 each
Ricordia: lime green mouths, mostly pink surface, purple edge; easily spreads and divides (we started with only 2 polyps). 2 single polyp…$10 each, 2 colonies of 3 polyps each…$ 15 each. 2” x 3” rock with 2 polyps…$15
Kenya tree: 2 large…$3 each. 3 medium…$2 each. This coral is fraging regularly and the frags can sometimes be traded to local stores for supplies and such.
Brown zoos: small colony on large branch of rock…$5 for whole branch
Various live rock…$5 a piece
