View Full Version : chaeto fugitives
My initial plan was to turn the second compartment of my Solana 34g into a 'fuge' type area, but I've run into a snag. Apparently the holes are too big and chaeto continues to break through and run rampant in the display. It's gotten worse now that I've upgraded the stock return pump to a Mag7. I purchased an AquaClear70 to try the HoB fuge DIY and needless to say I'm not satisfied with the results or the look. So again I'd like to return to using the second chamber, but I'm not sure how to keep it out of the display. Here's an illustration:

I was thinking of picking up some nylon screen (for windows) from home depot and wrapping the bottom plastic piece in it, but I'm scared that it will restrict the flow and cause a problem down the line. Thoughts/ideas?

My Mag 18's come with a sponge for the intake. Does the mag 7 come with a sponge? Maybe put that on.

I totally forgot about that...I don't think it'll fit though =/ that last chamber is pretty snug with the mag7 intake up against the far wall

Put the chateo above the blue filter an put lr rubble under it.... Should cure all your problems...
Even better I would put a hob fuge since you have so much flow going through that little back compartment I could see it being a real problem for micro bubbles and such a high flow fugue might not do much.... I ran the stock pump in my solana and it was great.... Why such a upgrade???? A maxijet 1200 with a prefilterfor a return would cure your problem and give you the right amount of flow IMHO. Hth...

I'm seriously considering going the HoB route. The only real reason for the upgrade is because I had the Mag7 laying around not being used, and I figured ~300gph more flow can only help the health of my tank. Do you know if the medium Aquafuge2's will fit on a solana? I can't find a definitive answer online =/

I'm not sure if they will or not.... I know the CPR will fit nicely....;) but you have to add a little pump to feed it.... Works better than a u tube IMHO....
