This is a picture of the light on
http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu348/dthblackjack/efa16cb3.jpg
they are extremely bright i keep them at about 50 %
I just turned the lights on for a second so my corals are ****ed at me haha
http://i662.photobucket.com/albums/uu348/dthblackjack/b368484a.jpg
I love the ability to be able to dial the lights into any color i want , i can change from 10k, 12k, 14k, 15k, and to 20k i love it
I had a great time building it and it was extremely easy took me about 5 hours to complete
If i could do this anyone could, im only 15 and it was easy for me
thanks everyone for looking

thank you very much, just figured i might as well post it so others could get some ideas
Narazbad, It cost me roughly 260 with everything said and done, this is a very reasonable price because the LEDs last 10 years

I'm very surprised at the low cost, especially with the price of cree's being so high, I thought.
The build looks great, let us know how it works! I'm very seriously contemplating going LED on my next tank and I will be studying them closely over the next several months.

thanks everyone, i got bored one day and saw that alot of people with nano tanks were going LED and thought i might as well join them :)
Narazbad, the cree's only cost 6.29 each and i only used 12 with 80 degree optics at 1.19 each
not to advertise another reef forum or anything but i did all my research on nano-reef.com, they have alot of indepth info on these LEDs

so whats the coupon code to get 50% off? :)
more serious question... if i bought this + the 35-700 driver:
https://www.reefledlights.com/products-page/premimum-xr-e-q5-led-kits/12-cree-xr-e-q5-led-kit/
-would i be able to mount that into the hood of my biocube 14?
-what else would i need to buy to get it working?
dhaquaman
08-02-2010, 11:15 PM
im not 100% sure cuase i used buck pucks but it looks small enough too where i think you would be able to
that kit is a LOT cheaper than anything else ive seen... is there anything missing from it?

yeah led lights are cool only thing i advise from my experience is research on leds because you dont understand how bright they are you can bleach your corals if you dont aclimidate them correctly best way to do it get a dimmable driver.
dhaquaman
08-03-2010, 04:09 PM
like bonkers said i think you miss the ability to dim the colors the way you want it, i think you can only dim all 12 at the same time while i can dim the blue and whites seperatly
