My new Lee-Mar 225 gallon aquarium, along with stand are now set in place in my parlor, now I need to start looking into a sump/refugium. As mentioned, the tank is 225 gallons (72X24X30"). So if I use an aquarium and build my own sump/refugium, which size should I use? I was considering a 40 gallon breeder, is this large enough?
Also, my tank has dual 2,500gph overflows, what size return pump do I need? My return lines are going to be 3/4". I am new to the sump/refugium thing, so will need some advice in order to get this set-up correctly.
Thanks,
Jared

Are you going to use an external pump or submersible?

I am planning on using a submersible, something that sits under water, inside the final chamber of the sump/refugium.

A 125 will not fit under my 225, as it has the same length of 72". I could fit a 75 gallon I believe.

Take the dimensions of your tank and look at what are the average sizes of what you can fit under there. Maybe one of the 84s that AE has will fit? If not, go for the next size down. Just work around what space you have available and if you want to keep any free under the tank. The more water volume you have the better, but make sure you still have room to work around in there and for expansion if need be.

The 80s should fit under there nicely... The 120 I was talking about is 24x24x48 not sure the width of your stand thou... Try a 75 or 80 etc my skimmer for instance that would be ideal for you tank needs a 20gal for it's self so a 40 isn't gonna give ya much room.... Figure out your skimmer foot print what reactors etc your gonna use in there then figure out a tank to fit all your needs.... I'm a fan of large sumps I make all mine at least 50% or more to the size of the display....

For some reason my earlier post did not come through. 84 long aquariums as mentioned above have a 72" length, so they will not fit underneath my 72" 225 gallon. I could easily fit a 75 gallon under there, which seems like a good size sump. I was also looking at this:
