Hey folks...been a while since I been on the site...I love the new look

Anyways, I am moving so I thought now would be a good time to redo the plumbing below my tank but I have a couple of questions:

1) I am adding a chiller to the system. From what I understand the chiller should be placed in the circuit between where the water exits the tank and enters the sump. So pump > tank > chiller > sump > pump. Is that correct?

2) My I am trying to move away from flexible tubing to most / all PVC for the plumbing...what would be the best glue to use that will dry very fast and be non toxic since I need to be able to connect everything within a couple of hours of assembling?

You guys always give the best advice so thank you very much in advance!

James

It wouldn't really matter where you put the chiller inline at but I would use clean water from the sump if at possible, which means from the return pump or placing a pump in the sump after the skimmer so detrius don't collect inside if it can.."not sure"
as for glue regular PVC glue is fine.. I always use Christies red hot PVC glue and fire it up with in 5 min and the tank is stocked lol...The worst that will happen is your skimmer won't work for a day or so...

So it would be better if it went pump > chiller > tank > sump > pump?

I honstly don't think it really matters.. But that would work.. I have never takin a chiller apart so I don't know if anything can settle in there...hth

The only reason I was putting the chiller before the sump was that I had read somewhere that the cold water from the chiller would mix with the water from the sump prior to making it's way back to the tank which would mean the water temp differential within the tank would be smoother. I have no idea if this is true or if the temp differential would even be large enough to be noticed or matter.

Makes sense in away... But in reality it is just holding a tank at a stable temp it's not pouring out frigid water into tank...are you gonna run it off a pump already on the tank or you gonna add a pump just for the chiller??

I was hoping the pump running my system would be sufficient...I'll post more details when I get home in 30 mins or so.

Ok so it's a 125 gal All Glass aquarium w dual overflows in the rear, a 29 gal All Glass sump in the stand below & the pump is a Coralife 1740-P.
