I was thinking of getting a black seahorse for my tank. with all the little Copepods and Amphipods over populating:p my tank, the snail, baby starfish and clams are doing well i thought i might add somthing bigger. I saw some seahorses i thought about getting one. what do you think, good idea?

How big is your tank? What is the flow like? Do you have corals? What kind of lighting is there? How stable are your params?

Generally speaking, sea horse tanks should be just for sea horses, nothing else. They are VERY specialized and require considerable and detailed care and feeding. Otherwise, they will starve to death. There should be nothing else in the tank but the sea horses or you should just avoid them all together. It's cruel to just "give them a try" with how specialized they are. Just my opinion...

I know some seahorses are picky, I did do my research on them.

Not many people have tried it with any success. I know they need lots of algaes to hang on to and feed out of, low flow, little to no competition for food and stable water parameters. Thats about it, right now.

My aunt used to breed them in California. It is tough and you should have NO FISH. They will either pick on the sea horse or they will eat all the food. Sea Horses should be kept alone
