Wanted to know what you think about using ozone on reef setup, good and bad.

I used the Red Sea 50 mg for about 2 years, now I recently upgraded to the variable output Ozotech 200mg when it ws on sale at BRS. The Ozotech is a solidly built unit that came with like 50 different adapters. Made out off all metal too which is nice.

Connected it to the Blue Warner Marine Skimmer with a "T" in the venturi line, then put a bag of carbon on top.

Good stuff I noticed personally
1. So what I notice in my SPS reef is clear water with no yellow hue. ( you can actually bleach your corals so start out small and ramp up)
2. The second thing, people often comment on how all my corals are growing into eachother and not killing eachother. Well when the old unit clogged up, I had to wait a a week to get the new one and that was the start of Wold War 3. So it will help reduce coral vs. coral competetion.
3. I was able to kill cyano and stop a brown jelly disease with a obscenely high dose for 2 days. The corals were a little stressed but not too bad.
4. Saturates the water with oxygen, you'll notice air bubbles on the substrate because when the algaes create oxygen, the water is so full it won't dissolve in.

Scientiffically probable but not really possible to prove at home
3. It turns ammonia to nitrate instantly.
4. Breaks down other chemicals that build up.
5. kills germs and parasites

Bad
1. Probably breaks down some good stuff too. SO your "dirty" ater corals like xenia might not trive anymore.
2. Needs to be setup and monitored.
3. You could overdose your tank, but that seems really tough to do. You can practically eliminate that with some attention to setup.

That box does all that? How much? Are they hard to monitor? Would I need an Apex or some kind of controller?

It's a all in one unit..^^^^ you can add it to your normal skimmer if it's ozone safe or buy a cheap one or reactor lol..

you can use an apex to monitor it and control it or you can use any ORP monitor/controller

My original skimmer is a mesh wheel and that's not ozone safe.
