This is something I just read about...sounds kind of interesting. His claims might be a little extreme, though...

It looks gutsy, sounds like it's beneficial but too tough for my limited plumbing skills; somehow, I would chop off a finger. If you try it let me know, I would be interested in learning more about it. Thanks for sharing.

there is a downside to turf scrubbers. All systems I have ever heard about, who have used it, can only grow brown acropora. So while it is effecient at exporting it will not get your nutrient levels low enough for colorful sps. I suggest anyone interested in going this route do a lot more research.

well having cheoto and calerpu only is basicly having a turf system.. Mike auks tank has this for cleaning, his corals have great color even under 10k bulbs plus they they grow quick. My plan is to fill my 100 vat with cheoto, calerpu, and what ever else i can get.
The other way of using a carbon source is not as natural. I was talking to Dan at Wet thumb and he has been hearing about using rice article on reef central. He said he is going to give it a shot he said it is kinda like the vodka pellets

mine has a Skimmer on it though. And ozone and carbon. I've never seen a good looking turf scrubber only acro systen either. They make the water really yellow.

Thanks for the heads up I will stick with my set-up (FOWLR and refugium). If it works I should leave it alone; although, the temptation for improvement is always alluring.

I really got to put on my ozone been saying that for many months now, since it will reduce yellowing. Guess I have never seen a completly turf only tank

skimmers will make the difference I agree with never seeing a colorful sps tank with just a scrubber. cheato is to help it works but not all the great a good skimmer and proper feeding will stop the cheato from growing ask Joe he tried cheato and never got it to grow.

Well, I'm still using the chaeto/cal mix, and finally got a skimmer to work, so I'm sticking with that for now. It seems like an interesting premise, I've not seen any long term results on them though.
