    Water temp

Ran into a problem on 240. Temp seems to stay steady at 83.4 degrees I like to keep tank at 80-81 normally. What are my options? Or is 83.4 ok? Thanks Jake.

83 is a little on the high side. Not bad enough to stress everything but getting close. Without details of your system there should be a few easy to do things to dropo it a couple more degrees. Fans on lights and proper ventilation in your hood, possibly even raising your lights an inch or 2. Better water movement at the surface. Fans in the sump. Look for a more effecient pump(s) that transfers less heat to the system. Lower your room temperature.

Just throw a little clip on fan over your sump and 2 or 3 in your canopy and it should drop it. Mine was the same, since I added the fans it keeps it at a nice 78

You can get cheap little desk fans at wal mart for like 6 bucks. Three of those placed around the tank will keep things much cooler. Just have to keep on top of your top off. It's gonna speed evaporation up.

If the fans do not decrease the water temperature and you can swing it, get a chiller. Yes, they are a pricey investment, aside from my RO I consider this the second best expense. I just pick the temperature and it stays constant between .5-1 degree of my setting, no fuss. Although, your electric bill will go up slightly, maybe $10 a month. A hot/cold chiller is the easiest way to keep things in line.

    Good luck.

I like evaporative cooling but an ATO is a must. Also having the fans hooked into a Reef Keeper (or something else) helps. I do not like the added heat the chiller adds to the living space.

I got a used chiller from Current USA, was only 250 bucks for a 1/4 hp. They even sent me a free new temp probe when the one it came with was reading 5 degress to high. The sell the used ones on Ebay.
